Do you remember last week when I said I didn't have the excitement for Jiu-Jitsu that I once did? Well, guess what...it's back! After a few good classes, my joy has returned, and it's almost as if it never went away.
So, what happened in the past few classes that was so great? Well, let's see...everyone I rolled with submitted me. I couldn't even keep Sara in side control for five seconds, and Mike repeatedly tossed me off of him as if I were a tiny kitten (not that I think Mike would ever toss kittens, I'm just saying). When I put Ray in KOB, he said N-O, and I quickly ended up on my back. Conan shut down my best ever attempt to guillotine choke him, and then he taunted me about it. I also came within millimeters of grabbing some dude's junk, so that was pretty outstanding! And by "outstanding", I mean "embarrassing".
You know you love Jiu-Jitsu when you go to class and you get completely annihilated by everyone, and afterward you still say "That was fantastic!". What makes the difference is how much my seniors make me feel like they care about me, and my growth. Every single one of them inspires me, and they kick my ass in order to help me improve. I couldn't ask for a better group of people to look up to.
I'm so excited about Jiu-Jitsu again that today I signed up for the Best of the Best Tournament on Oct. 20th! It only cost me $21, because registration started yesterday at $20, and then they'll add another dollar every day until registration ends (which I think is a pretty smart way to do it). I figured if I was going to sign up, I should do it early, before the cost goes up (or I change my mind ;). Game on!
