My first day back to Jiu-Jitsu was a success! I was afraid it would be awkward, but you know, the mat still feels like home. I think my Jiu-Jitsu brethren were glad I was there, and everyone was great about working with injured me. They were all very helpful and accommodating, and I actually ended up being able to do almost everything we practiced! It felt as if I'd only been away for a few days, I don't even know what I was so worried about.
I had to drop out shortly before open mat, because my wrist needed a rest at that point, but I'm happy with how much I
could do. I thought I would have some trouble with the gi chokes, since grabbing and holding is still difficult with my right hand, but it went much better than I expected. There was some swelling and bruising after class, but after a little ice, it felt great. Now I'm positive that I am really ready to return, and I'm thrilled to be back!
I decided to take some pictures during open mat to keep my mind off the fact that I wasn't participating. Unfortunately a lot of them turned out very dark, because while I've been gone, they boarded up some of the windows due to water leaking in, and I guess my flash wasn't set for taking pictures in a dungeon. I do not like losing the windows! There used to be a lot of natural light in the building, and now it seems dreary. I took about fifty pix, but only a handful are even halfway decent.
Oh, but anyway, Toto, we're home. Home! And this is my room, and you're all here. And I'm not gonna leave here ever, ever again, because I love you all, and oh, Auntie Em, there's no place like home!
