Karate, Ken?

When I issued my Triple Trouble challenge; for someone else besides me to enter the Cornhusker State Games Karate, Jiu-Jitsu, and Judo competitions, I had a couple of people in mind who I thought might rise to the occasion. One of them was Ken Haddix, who has been my immediate senior in Karate since I started. Which means I have stood next to him in line more than anyone else, and he is my dudebro. I've been getting my butt kicked by him for years! When he was promoted to black belt a year before I was, and he moved to the udanja line, I felt lost and lonely without him.

He is also my senior in Jiu-Jitsu; holding a purple belt, and in Judo; where he wears brown, so I thought he was the perfect candidate to fight in all three arts. I got excited when I saw that he was signed up for Jiu-Jitsu and Judo, but then I was bummed when I realized he didn't sign up for Karate. He has competed in the Kumite competition every year for at least the past six years, and he has taken the gold almost every time, so I just assumed he would do it again this year. I guess it got boring winning all the time.

So it's a shame Ken won't be the Triple Crown King to my Queen. I was also hoping my husband Joe might accept the challenge, and he probably would have if injury wasn't preventing him from competition. Sigh. Yesterday was the deadline for registration, so it looks like I'm going to be the only CSG KJJJ fighter this year.

Update: I just found out they extended the deadline for registration to Tue
sday, July 5th, so there's still time, Ken! Come on, you know you want to.

Also, here is a picture Ken drew of some of us hanging out at the dojo. I think I'm the one at the top, with the dude in a choke hold.
