New blood and old sweat

Our Jiu-Jitsu Sensei Conan is taking time off to let some injuries heal, and hopefully he will be back to teaching soon, but he always knows we are in good hands when he's not there. We have a few senior students who teach on a regular basis, and now we also have another black belt! Greg Lawson recently joined our class, and he holds a black belt in BJJ. I think it really energizes the group when we have fresh blood, especially when they have a lot of experience and knowledge to share.  Today was the first time I've had the pleasure of being taught by Greg, and I really liked learning from a different perspective. He went over defenses and escapes from bottom half guard, which is my Achilles heel. I often find myself trapped there and have difficulty getting out. I am excited to try the things he showed us the next time I'm in that position.

Which could be on Saturday, because I am fighting in the 17th Best of the Best Submission Grappling ProAms. But first I have to survive twelve hours of Karate tomorrow at our annual dojo convention, Have I ever mentioned that our school is not air-conditioned? At least it's cooler this year, people were dropping like flies last year. Seriously, we had to call 911 and everything. I just hope I sweat off a couple of pounds tomorrow, so that I make weight for the competition.
